Alden Hicks Fine Art

When I originally started sharing my artwork five years ago, it was simply to show pieces to family and friends. A couple years later I found myself inspired by my grandfather’s poetry – so much so that I created my first full collection, ‘Credit the Muse’. Unknowingly, this was the beginning of my journey to breathe new life into something that’s already lived, already mattered.

I continue to find myself drawn to things that have already had a purpose. They have character built into them. Suede that once held a life. Paper bags from our grocery runs. A studio drop cloth covered in paint. Materials that served somewhere else first, that now get to mean something again.

In case you’re ever wondering, my paintings don’t have any hidden meaning. The meaning is obvious, it’s inherent. It’s not about creating something new, it’s about recognizing what’s always been there. It’s beauty reinvigorated.
